Bad skin can be annoying and disfiguring and lower your self esteem.
So What is Bad Skin
Acne is a very common skin disease which affects the majority of the people especially teenagers and young adults. It is commonly referred to as pimple and it is a chronic condition. Since it always keeps coming back, it is very hard to treat. Although it is not a very serious skin disease the psychological effects of acne is far more devastating to the individual. One's social life and self esteem can indeed suffer because of acne.
There are actually different types of acne but basically it can be divided into blackheads/whiteheads and red bumps. The blackhead/whitehead is called comedones or open comedones while the red bumps are lumps filled with pus.
What are Blackheads
Blackheads are follicles or skin pores that have wider opening. Thus, blackheads are also called open comedones, meaning open skin pores. These pores are filled with sebum and skin cells. Together they form a chemical reaction that results in melanin oxidation. The melanin oxidation makes the sebum and cells change into black color. Now the difference between the whiteheads and the blackheads is the oxidation. Since white heads are closed comedones, meaning the follicles are small, the air cannot reach the sebum and the cells. Therefore they remain white instead of black. So although skin hygiene is very important in acne and blackheads, the appearance of blackheads do not necessarily mean that dirt is accumulating in your face.
