There are different types of medical acne cures, but let us first understand about acne. Acne erupts when the oil glands present in the skin give out oil in large quantities. Teenagers and youngsters in the twenties are most susceptible to acne. But, it is not limited to these ages only. Elderly, middle aged people and children can also have acne.
Acne can be caused by-
• Drugs - Iodides, bromides, oral or injected steroids, anticonvulsant medications and lithium can cause acne.
• Occupation - subject to industrial products like cutting of oils may produce acne.
TREATMENTS
Topical Retinoid
Tropical Retinoid embody of Isotretinoin (Accutane), Adapalene (Differin), Tazarotene (Tazorac), Tretinoin (Retin-A, Renova), Azelaic acid (Azelex) etc which helps in removing extra sebum.
Antibacterial ointments
Antibacterial ointments contain clindamycin (CleocinT, Clindets), erythromycin (Akne-Mycin, Eryderm, and Staticin) and sodium sulfacetamide (Klaron, Novacet). These ointments help in reducing and killing acne causing bacteria.
Combination Treatments
Combination topicals combine of tretonoin and erythromycin (Stievamycin), benzoyl peroxide and erythromycin (Benzamycin) and benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin (Clindoxyl). These products reduce acne and provides with better resistant than acne retinoids or the antibiotic ointments
Antibiotics
Antibiotics help in removing acne by eliminating bacteria and inflammation. Antibiotics can be used orally also. Oral treatment with antibiotics is better for extreme forms of cysts. Antibiotics include doxycycline, tetracycline, minocycline, erthromycin and trimethoprim.
Laser Therapy
Acne laser therapy has shown extra ordinary results in the treatment of acne. The clogging pores are treated with UV light to destroy the bacterial growth up there which is contributing to acne problems. This is a new treatment introduced. It helps in removing scars and helps in improving the skin texture.
Home remedies for the cure of acne -
• Rinse the affected area daily twice a day with benzoyl peroxide wash. Benzoyl peroxide should be five per cent only. People allergic to benzoyl peroxide can use two per cent of salicylic acid.
• A gel or a cream can be applied to the affected area with benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide content should be five per cent only. People who are allergic to benzoyl peroxide can use sulphur or resorcined instead.
• One can also apply sulfur, may be in the form of spot cream at night.
• People suffering from acne should use oil free make up and light moisturizer.
• Acne can be reduced by in taking more and more citrus fruits specifically oranges, grapes, lemon etc.
• One should drink ten to twelve glasses of water per day.
• Do not prick, squeeze or rub the pimples as it can cause infection and pus.
• One should ignore stress factor.
• Be patient as curing of acne can take a long time that is eight to ten months.
