Acne has been ranked as one of the most common skin diseases in the world today. It affects millions of people around the globe, with more getting the skin disorder. While the effects of acne can easily be managed, many people fail to successful manage it either because of lack of the knowledge on how to go about treating the disease or because of misinformation. Many people around the world therefore fail to properly deal with the skin disorder when it is at its initial stages. The resultant effect of this is that the effects become more pronounced and treating acne may also take longer time that would have actually been necessary if the disease had been effectively dealt with when it was still at its initial stages of development.
One of the major effects of having acne for a prolonged time is the psychological effects that the disease has on the sufferer. This arises mainly because of the fact that acne usually appears in places on a person's body that are usually easily visible. One of the major symptoms of the disease is that it causes acne scars which usually change the complexion of the skin. As a result of the scars caused by acne, a person suffering from it tends to feel less beautiful. This means that the person will have a low self esteem, something which may make him or her to withdraw socially.
The negative feelings that result from low self esteem may further be aggravated by the fact that the sufferer may be taunted. When these factors are compounded, research shows that a person can sink into depression. This is the reason why acne is also usually associated with increased rates of suicide.
This does not however mean that every person that suffers from acne has a tendency to sink into depression. There are instances where people, even celebrities, live with acne for years while going on about their businesses confidently and successfully. What really matters is how one deals with the acne and how he or she learns do deal with the effects of having the skin condition.
The threat of depression for acne sufferers is real, and when this is not dealt with properly an in time, it may lead to undesired results. This therefore makes it imperative that one not only leans to treat acne and manage acne, but to also deal with the effects of having the disease.
