Acne is a disease of the hair follicles which affects almost every youth worldwide. It not only causes irritation, discomfort and pain in the affected areas, but it can destroy your self-esteem and confidence too, and eventually lead you to depression and social withdrawal.
Here are some tips on acne that will help you to get rid of it in no time at all:
1. Healthy Diet
Follow a balanced and healthy diet which contains all classes of food at the right proportions. Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet list, because they are rich in vitamins and minerals which are essential for healthy skin. Drink a lot of water, at least six to eight glasses every day. Water not only cleanses your body by flushing out toxins, but it also keeps your skin hydrated, leaving you with a healthy radiant complexion.
2. Healthy Lifestyle
Reduce your level of stress, both at work and at home. Stress will lead to hormonal changes which is one of the main causes of acne, and this explains why teenagers suffer the most. Exercise regularly and most importantly, get enough sleep because your body's repair mechanisms work best at this time.
3. Stop Popping
Never try to pop the acne although this can be very tempting. Popping acne may temporarily ease the pain and make you feel better but not cure it. When you squeeze the acne, you may inadvertently spread some of the contents deeper into the follicles, leading to more swelling and redness, and even scarring.
4. Stop Touching
Keep your hands off your face as much as possible. Remember, your hands although fairly clean, are never free of bacteria no matter how many times you wash them. When you touch your face more than necessary, you are transferring the bacteria, oil and dirt on your hands onto your face, giving you a higher chance of getting infections.
5. Wash Your Face
Wash your face at least three times a day with mild cleanser. Washing removes the excess oil and dirt from the surface of your skin, hence reducing the growth of bacteria. Avoid over washing your face because it will make your skin too dry. To compensate, your body's feedback mechanisms automatically stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce and secrete more oil, which only worsen your acne condition.
6. Wash Your Hair
Wash your hair daily and try to keep it clean and tidy. If you have long hair, tie it up and keep it away from your face. Change your pillowcase weekly especially if you often sleep on your side. Oil and dirt accumulated on your hair and pillowcase, will contribute to your breakouts.
